
New town officials belatedly sworn in

Rye Town officials, who began their terms on Jan. 1, were belatedly sworn in last Saturday, Jan. 28 in front of a packed courtroom at Rye Town Hall.
Rye Town Justice John Colangelo did the honors for Republican Supervisor Joseph Carvin of Rye Brook, who is beginning his second four-year term along with Republican Councilman Robert Nioras. Nioras, also of Rye Brook, was sworn in by former Westchester County Judge Joel Aurnou.

P.C. schools get increase in state aid, still have to cut $2.7M from budget

The Port Chester School District has recalculated how much money it needs to cut from its rollover budget in order to adhere to the New York State Tax Levy Cap. Now, instead of having to slash $3.3 million worth of positions and programs, the district only has to cut $2.77 million.

New career firefighter joins PCFD

Port Chester is getting a new career firefighter, fresh out of training from the Westchester County Career Chiefs Fire Academy. The addition of Brett Lyons will help out the Port Chester Fire Department, which has been racking up overtime hours because of two firefighters who have only been able to work light duty.
